No. TechWears products light up imaginations and make people smile but they do not emit light on their own. Although it may be intuitive for some to assume that wearing a piece of wearable tech would provide some sort of extra flashy effect, our goal with TechWears is to create accessories that you can comfortably wear in any environment, from a fun night out with friends to a corporate board room.
We work with certified electronics recyclers who have demonstrated through third party audits that ALL of their materials are ethically handled. It is unfortunate that many electronic recyclers only seek the valuable metals and will ship the materials with a negative value into a developing country. R2 and e-Stewards are the industry standards for downstream transparency and accountability in regards to electronics handling.
Thank you for the offer, but no. We do not recycle circuit boards ourselves. We look for circuit boards with very specific attributes to upcycle into TechWears products. It’s important that certified electronics recyclers handle the materials in old electronics to reduce the risk of your e-waste polluting the environment. Short answer: YES.
Long answer: Circuit boards and technology are made using a wide range of materials, including heavy metals like lead. Circuit boards can release these materials when they are subjected to heat, cutting, or sanding. We take significant precautions when making our products to ensure that we are protected, and we perform a manual cleaning process for each piece to ensure that the product is free of contaminates before we ship it. However, if you need to file an edge, cut a piece off, or subject the product to high temperatures for some reason, proceed with caution and be forewarned that you do so at your own risk. Wear a breathing mask, gloves, safety glasses, and use vinegar or alcohol to clean up your workspace when done.
